Interviewing well: a working method
How I prepare, what I never do, and the question I always save for last.

A good interview is engineered before it begins and abandoned the moment it starts going somewhere better.
Before
I write fifteen questions and expect to use four. The other eleven exist so I know the terrain well enough to follow a detour.
During
No interrupting. No finishing sentences. Silence is the cheapest and most effective tool in the bag.
The last question
“What did I not ask that I should have?” It has rescued more stories than any amount of preparation.
